Where it Started

In 2016, my dad took me out on a fishing trip where I had my first inspiration for photography. With much encouragement from my family, I continued this passion; capturing events for my school and making YouTube videos with my friends. I also began live-streaming during 2021 after being sent home from university, which opened doors for me to capture sports content for my university. Graphic design, photography, videography, live-streaming, I did it all! After I graduated university with a Media and Communications degree, I decided to take a leap and see what I could do!

2009 was the first time I got my little hands on some extremely advanced filming technology. I loved how my camera said hello and goodbye to me whenever I turned it on and off. Even though the films I created looked like an 8 year old filmed them, it ignited a deep-seated passion within my heart and sole. This very quickly blossomed into a desire to capture as many memories as I could, filming family vacations, stop motion animation with LEGO, and little skits with friends.

“Hey Carson, you got a degree now, what have you actually learned?” Thank you for asking, random citizen!

In grade 4, my teacher and track/field coach shared this nugget of wisdom with me:

“Look at where you’re running to. Don’t get distracted and look at anything else or you’ll slow down. Lock your eyes onto your goal and you will make it.”

I’ve heard many metaphors with this same idea. There is no doubting the wisdom it holds when the going gets tough.

It is commonly used in reference to setting life goals. Gaining achievements. Don’t get distracted from your goal or you won’t achieve it. But I think, when we do this, we’re missing the point.

Sure, ignoring hate and looking past failure will help you achieve your goals. No denying that. I’m saying that there’s something that will bring us more fulfilment and life than any achievement we could set our eyes on.

What if we made Christ our goal? What if we were able to see past the hard times, the conflicts, the worry, and take comfort in our end goal, that being God’s will for our lives? How, then, would we live? How would we love?

Personally, I have let too many distractions take my attention away from this goal. I’ve let bitterness control me, hurt guide my actions, shame warp my perceptions, worry and the desire to cope destroy my willpower. I feel that many people could relate.

But these are simply distractions trying to steal our attention away from the end goal, trying to snare us like a vice making us unwilling then unable to move again towards our goal.

I now understand the role bitterness and worry play in my life. I let them steal my attention away from whole heartedly pursuing Christ, distract me from the overwhelming love and grace of God. I wish I could go back and choose love over hurt.

In this new chapter of life, I am confident in the peace that comes with trusting Gods will. Thank you to my friends, present and past, and family that helped me get to a place where the peace of Christ guides my future.

So, if I’ve learned anything from my degree, it’s that! My future is in God’s hands and I couldn’t be more excited!!

People say this a lot. It’s not always said with a positive connotation, but staying true to our inner child is super important as we get older.

Make sure to care for it every once in a while. I think both peace and joy come from tending to our inner children😌

HEY! HEY YOU! You’ve gotta visit this place if you haven’t already! 👇🏼👇🏼

Off the coast of British Columbia, Canada, lies a place called Vancouver Island. It in itself is beautiful, but travel to the far west coast and you discover true gems.

Tofino is on of these places, filled with beaches, trendy shops and restaurants, hippies, and surfers!

This beach specifically is called Chesterman beach. If you’re lucky, you can stay in a cozy cabin RIGHT ON THE BEACH!!

Tofino is a surfing town, so if that interests you, there are tons of places you can rent gear from and learn how to surf!

Tofino should be on everyone’s bucket list. I hope I have convinced you that it should be on yours!!

Seeking the peace that comes from nature is a highway to a clear head😌

Remember to reflect on how you’ve gotten here, good or bad.

Take time to slow down and try something new🙌🏼

I’d never eat an orange again

I thought this year was going to suck.

I had no idea this year would be so transformative.

I started out feeling like nothing and expecting to be nothing but ended this year feeling the most human I’ve felt in a long time (that’s a good thing lol).

And I got all you to thank. Going from an emotionless boring blob to who I am today was something I thought to be unattainable. It doesn’t matter the friendship level we shared, I learned so much through every experience (positive or negative) we had and I can’t thank you enough for it.

I had an incredible dorm who were down for anything, whether it be 2am boys nights or just watching someone play fortnight (the most dorm participation we had all year btw),

I had an amazing team who became some of my most real, reliable, and relatable friends (guess those multiple study all nighters in twusa sparked some pretty deep conversation somehow🤷🏼‍♂️).

I got to keep up with old friends (who had my back no matter what) along with meeting some new, solid people.

I got to direct a short film with a close friend and get even closer with the entire cast and crew over the shared pride of hard, successful work.

So, yeah. Thank you so much for everything this year. I’ll miss seeing you every day or just running into you on campus for the next four months!!

Here we are after all these years.

Still going for spontaneous late night ice cream runs,
still driving for hours on end jamming out to the classics,
still raiding thrift shops and messing around with the goofiest outfits we can find,
still planning massive game nights with costumes and prizes,
still getting together for morning coffee discussions and light-hearted evening meals,
still getting super competitive over mini golf for no reason whatsoever,
still never wanting to say goodbye.

This is how you know you’ve made friends for life. I could not be more grateful that each and every one of you are still there for me. It never ceases to amaze me that, no matter what stage of life we’re in, we can still pick up where we left off and enjoy each other’s company for the limited time we have. For that I have to say thank you once again.

Happy grad to the best bro out there @jaden_bird6! This milestone is only one of many you will achieve in your lifetime. Had a great time with the family, too! The house only burned down once and I see that as an absolute win.
